{"id":59,"date":"2007-09-06T08:58:50","date_gmt":"2007-09-06T15:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/archives\/59"},"modified":"2007-09-15T10:24:43","modified_gmt":"2007-09-15T17:24:43","slug":"term-limits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/2007\/09\/term-limits\/","title":{"rendered":"term limits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><!--more-->It could easily become a full time job parrying fallacies from the Elbert County Left factions, so I\u2019ll try to keep this short.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\">The apolitical Thomassons\u2019 call to retain county term limits comes from their personal conclusions that this particular commission has \u201cmismanaged the county finances, borrowed us to the brink of bankruptcy and steered us into numerous lawsuits.\u201d<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Without proof, charges such as these are no more than partisan rhetoric, though the last charge is kind of amusing since the Thomassons do what they can to promote lawsuits against the county whenever they have an opportunity.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\">The point is, term limits apply to the offices.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>A position for or against term limits based on a particular personality currently in an office is no more than partisan politics, a modus operandi the Thomassons seem incapable of rising above.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Are there off-line agreements made prior to public disclosures in Elbert County governing bodies?<span>\u00a0 <\/span>You bet.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Is this phenomena practiced by all factions?<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Absolutely.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">If the Thomassons are really concerned about letting the sunshine in on backroom politics, why not start\u00a0with their own factions?<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Personally, I\u2019m for county term limits because I see them as a necessary offset to the one-political-party in Elbert County for the Left, the Right, the County Employees, and the No-Growthers, all doing their damnedest under the radar to manipulate precinct caucuses and county assemblies for their own electoral advantage.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Against this one-party machine, average voters don\u2019t stand a chance.\u00a0 Term limits may level the playing field a bit, though a\u00a0<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">better solution\u00a0would be a functioning multi-party system where candidates stand themselves and their ideas up for the voters to directly evaluate in November.\u00a0 This\u00a0current system of shlepping\u00a0into office through the county assembly pretty much guarantees that county leaders will never be accepted as\u00a0legitimate by a majority of the public.<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"nf_dc_page":"","_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[8],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-59","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-politics","7":"entry"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/59","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=59"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/59\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=59"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=59"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=59"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
