Under the Left, master planning &#8211; what used to be a guideline for officials &#8211; became, effectively, regulatory.<\/p>\n<p>Discretion by elected County Commissioners, who citizens used to go to for reasonable treatment in the face of overwhelming bureaucratic power, has been replaced by heavy-handed zoning laws written by Leftist planners.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The zoning-regulation-writing machine continues, unabated.  And still, Republicans have not figured out that you don&#8217;t defeat this totalitarianism by writing more zoning law.<\/p>\n<p>In today&#8217;s Investors Business Daily, <a href=\"http:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Chuck-Devore-on-Soft-Tyranny.jpg\">Chuck Devore makes the point<\/a>.  The Soft Tyranny of government regulation crowds out real economic activity.  <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Reducing.  .  .soft tyranny must begin with cutting red tape <em>and those who make it<\/em>.  To do so, Congress must reassert its authority, taking back the enormous grants of power they have lent to the unelected professionals of the administrative state.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Elbert County&#8217;s BOCC should follow Devore&#8217;s advice and repeal zoning law.  <\/p>\n<p>And if the Planning Commission members won&#8217;t recommend the repeal of oppressive zoning laws, they should be continuously replaced until the BOCC finds people with the stomach to do it.<\/p>\n<p>As Investors Business Daily noted in their house editorial today, &#8220;<em>The battle that should be joined is the battle right now<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/zoning-for-life.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3942\" alt=\"zoning for life\" src=\"http:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/zoning-for-life.jpg\" width=\"554\" height=\"593\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/zoning-for-life.jpg 1319w, https:\/\/elbertcounty.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/zoning-for-life-279x300.jpg 279w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Writing them is a lot easier than cleaning them up.
