The Left own the domain of the Elbert County Planning Commission. It’s their sandbox.
If looks could kill, yours truly would be cold in the ground from the sneers, snarls, scowls, disgust and disapproval they’ve thrown at me on the few evenings I’ve ventured on to that hallowed forum for regulatory orogeny.
Visual symbolic disembowelment seems to be a practiced art in their political culture. I can only speculate on where it comes from. Perhaps, since many of them are former public school teachers, it comes from the hundreds of public meetings they must have sat through once upon a time that required them to endure parents from the community lecturing them about their kids, while only being able to offer visual cues in response.
Obviously their looks are offensive in nature. They project the message, “I mean to offend you.” And this puzzles me a bit because few of them would ever admit, through spoken words, to making an intentional offense.
On the other hand, their written words can leave little doubt about their intentions. Just yesterday Mike Phillips of New-Plains provided an all too typical example on his Facebook page,
I can’t stand liars, cheaters, bullies, and BS slingers and once in awhile somebody needs to quit being polite and call a jerk, a jerk. And in the full abstraction of time yes we are all just carbon based globs of nothing, but in the daily grind, I get real tired of morons calling me a leftist or a liberal and likening anyone who is involved in trying to clean up the 20-year corruption of the status quo in the local government (see the official BOCC resolutions filing book from about 1995 forward for scary reading) as if they are some kind of terroristic third class degenerates. Brooks’ BS spewing accomplishes nothing beyond appealing to mental weaklings to harden their bigotry against anyone or anything that is different than they are. I fully support anyone’s “right” to be a fool, just don’t expect me to pat them on the head or not run over them if they are stupid enough to get in my way. Call it ghetto ethics…
Multiple self-aggrandizements and offenses all in one paragraph! But ghetto ethics? An interesting choice of words, it appears to come from a century-old work by Jack London,
“What do I want with socialism?” Martin demanded.
“Outsiders are allowed five-minute speeches,” the sick man urged.
“Get up and spout. Tell them why you don’t want socialism. Tell them what you think about them and their ghetto ethics. Slam Nietzsche into them and get walloped for your pains. Make a scrap of it. It will do them good. Discussion is what they want, and what you want, too. You see, I’d like to see you a socialist before I’m gone. It will give you a sanction for your existence. It is the one thing that will save you in the time of disappointment that is coming to you.”“I never can puzzle out why you, of all men, are a socialist,” Martin pondered. “You detest the crowd so. Surely there is nothing in the canaille to recommend it to your aesthetic soul.” He pointed an accusing finger at the whiskey glass which the other was refilling. “Socialism doesn’t seem to save you.”
“I’m very sick,” was the answer. “With you it is different. You have health and much to live for, and you must be handcuffed to life somehow. As for me, you wonder why I am a socialist. I’ll tell you. It is because Socialism is inevitable; because the present rotten and irrational system cannot endure; because the day is past for your man on horseback. The slaves won’t stand for it. They are too many, and willy-nilly they’ll drag down the would-be equestrian before ever he gets astride. You can’t get away from them, and you’ll have to swallow the whole slave-morality. It’s not a nice mess, I’ll allow. But it’s been a-brewing and swallow it you must. You are antediluvian anyway, with your Nietzsche ideas. The past is past, and the man who says history repeats itself is a liar. Of course I don’t like the crowd, but what’s a poor chap to do? We can’t have the man on horseback, and anything is preferable to the timid swine that now rule. But come on, anyway. I’m loaded to the guards now, and if I sit here any longer, I’ll get drunk. And you know the doctor says – damn the doctor! I’ll fool him yet.”
Well, I’m not going to read all of Martin Eden to figure out what Jack London meant by the term ghetto ethics, but it looks like a term of art that can mean whatever the speaker wants it to mean, and something about socialism. Without knowing the internal workings of Mike Phillips’ mind, it’s probably safe to assume that whatever he meant by it is not good for yours truly – a so-called moron with the temerity to label someone talking about socialist ethics a Leftist.
So, the Elbert County Left, and who knows how typically they represent all Leftists, appear generally civil in their spoken manner, but in writing and in purely visual representation, can be extremely offensive, and as we’ve seen, a bit hypocritical.
So what else may an observer of the Leftist class draw from observing them? How about the Left’s reputation for multi-cultural universal acceptance and non-judgmental regard of other human beings?
Well, last week the New-Plains web site hosted several abusive graphics and writings about yours truly that were extremely judgmental and non-accepting. And in the very same web page they advertised a seminar to stop the practice of adult bullying. I drew attention to this apparent conflict of messages but made the mistake of misspelling the word “hypocrisy.” Unfortunately the misspelling was mostly what they saw. The salient point got lost in the shuffle, but at least they cleared up for me this business about multi-cultural non-judgmentalism being a bunch of lip-served sound bites to feed those who don’t know them.
Leftists always seem to be ignoring points they find inconvenient, and this leads to a key difference between them and the rest of the sentient world. When Leftists don’t acknowledge something, it literally doesn’t exist. To be clear, it not only doesn’t exist for them, it doesn’t exist for anyone, anywhere, forever after. This seems to be their special power – the ability to control the terms of existence. “To be or not to be” is not a question for a Leftist. It’s a decision! Wow. With powers like that, no wonder they have no need for God.
Well, I heard Michael Savage say on the radio today, “Just because the world is filled with rapacious beasts who devour everything about the world we hold dear, doesn’t give us the right to talk about them.” I expect I’ll take my lumps from them for bringing these things up.
To be clear, it’s the “high” Left I’m talking about, not the thuggish “street” Left you find causing destruction at political riots. I don’t think the street Left have much to teach us beyond what happens when youthful passion goes out of control.
But perhaps we can learn something useful from observing the high Left. I know it upsets them to be dissected like a bunch of lab rats, but they project so much dissatisfaction with things, I feel it’s only right to try to understand them.
On the other hand, maybe Evan Sayet is right on the money and there is no point in trying to accommodate the Left since they’ve become “utterly indiscriminate,” which the dictionary defines as “confused, random, or promiscuous.” A people who “don’t make careful choices or distinctions” could be called reckless.
There must be a better way to deal with recklessness than to merely try to avoid it – which seems to be the strategy Republicans follow. That seems so cowardly.
But clearly, taking the bull by the horns is not for the timid. Merely labeling a Leftist gets one all manner of insult, rebuke and diminution. They really don’t like to be called what they are.
