Look at all the fishing expeditions. Look at those making the requests. County employees who could be engaged in productive work on behalf of taxpayers instead must serve these partisans in this blatant abuse of process. It does Elbert County no good. The sole beneficiaries are the selfish few who think government exists to satisfy their personal entertainment desires.

Folks, I know you too are growing weary of the madness of what is going on in our local
politics, and I believe it’s time for the leadership of our elected officials to step up and show some leadership. What the following underlined represents should concern every citizen of this county and this state. This is copied from the “Commissioners” Facebook page, and is reported to be the sole domain of Commissioner Kurt Schlegel. He posted this today in reference to citizens exercising their legal right to seek open records and documents to hold elected officials accountable. There is a reason for these laws and this right, and he apparently does not accept the premise that we have those rights. What is really frightening is he posted the names of the citizens who have submitted open records request, with the date and description of those requests. I believe this is a clear violation of those citizens civil rights, and is nothing more than a form of intimidation. I believe this constitutes a very serious threshold being crossed by an elected official, retribution in the form of “public scorn” intended by his message and the list, in response to these citizens simply doing what they are legally allowed to do. In fact, they should be applauded for being the active, concerned watchdogs they are. It’s time for this to stop, and I am calling on the Chairman of the BOCC and those in authority to rein in this blatant and uncalled for attempt to deny us our right to participate in our government. I hope you will call on him too, this has got to stop, and stop now!

Commissioner Schlegel shared the above post verbatim on his FB site. Mr. Rowland, a.k.a. Mr. Transparency, seeks to exempt himself and his friends from the very law he and his friends use as a political weapon against the BOCC. I wonder how Mr. Rowland, a.k.a. Mr. Constitution, reconciles his above attempt to shut down my legally protected political speech with the Constitution.
